Our Community is very important to us at Abbot Beyne and a recent assembly celebrated our community in its many guises. Community is about how you relate to and interact with the people around you. Our school community is calm and friendly, and students report that they feel safe at school. We are rooted in our local community - winning Burton's Debating competition, and contributing to the tubs on The Level as part of Winshill in Bloom. We celebrate our world community through the Comenius Project, which enables a group of Year 9 students to visit another part of the European Union every year - our recent visit was to Slovakia. More recently still the Year 11 went to see Blood Brothers at Wolverhampton and were wonderful ambassadors for the school, eliciting comments from the public that the students were a credit to Abbot Beyne.
Communities always come together in times of adversity. Last Friday we planted a tree inside the Linnell Gate in memory of Jordan Agar, a member of our school and local community who died last year.
Finally, our Year 11 and 13 students are shortly going to celebrate key milestones in their education, and some will be choosing to move to another community. I am confident that their time at Abbot Beyne will have equipped them to be active and full members of whatever community they decide to live in.
